In the White House, the racist White House, the fascist’s out tonight
In the White House, the racist White House, the fascist’s typing out.
And they tell us it’s okay, okay, okay
And they tell us it’s okay, okay, okay
On his platform, his social platform, the racist posts tonight
On his platform, his social platform, he posts his hate tonight
And they tell us it’s okay, okay, okay
And they tell us it’s okay, okay, okay
But this matters, it’s always mattered, it matters here tonight
But this matters, it’s always mattered, it will matter for all time
Nooooo, No, no, no, no, no, no, we say it’s not okay, not okay, not okay
While they tell us it’s okay, okay, okay
For one second, one dreadful second, Trump made them into apes
For one second, one dreadful second, his hatred showed its face
Nooooo, No, no, no, no, no, no, we say it’s not okay, not okay, not okay
While they tell us it’s okay, okay, okay
He’s a monster, who sits in power, we will not go away
He’s a monster, who sits in power, we will witness as we stay
Nooooo, No, no, no, no, no, no, we say it’s not okay, not okay, not okay
While they tell us it’s okay, okay, okayAnd they tell us it’s okay, it’s okay, it’s okay
When they ask you, because they’ll ask you, what you did when hate was crowned,
When they ask you, because they’ll ask you, we stood against this man.
It will never be okay, be okay, be okay
It will never be okay, be okay, be okay
This matters, it still matters, it matters for all time.

This Matters

On February 6, 2026, President Donald Trump posted a video to Truth Social that included AI-generated imagery depicting Barack and Michelle Obama with their faces superimposed on apes’ bodies to the song The Lion Sleeps Tonight. The racist imagery appeared for approximately one second in a longer video promoting debunked election fraud conspiracy theories. When confronted with widespread condemnation, White House Press Secretary Karoline Leavitt dismissed criticism as ‘fake outrage’ and told reporters to ‘report on something today that actually matters to the American public.’ The use of simian imagery to dehumanize Black people has deep historical roots in American racism and was commonly deployed to justify slavery, segregation, and ongoing discrimination. Some things cannot be normalized. Some things must be witnessed and named.
I guess today is the day Leavitt will have to answer questions about the Epstein Files, because those matter too, right?
